Action Commandments for Every Believer Day 7 – Sunday Selah

And He took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me. (Luke 22:19, ESV)

Here’s a final action commandment for every Christian, this one from the lips of Jesus: “Do this in remembrance of Me.” It was a command He gave His followers, and so He also gave it to us as we follow Him. It’s a simple request, but one He expects us to keep every single week. Not only is the request simple, but fulfilling it is also simple.

Two readily available things—bread and wine—are what Jesus asked us to remember His death with. It’s so simple, yet we have such profound and bittersweet thoughts when we obey His command. It is bitter to think of His body being broken and so cruelly crushed by bloodthirsty soldiers. It is bitter to think of nails in His hands and feet and a crown of thorns on His head. But it is sweet when we remember why it happened—His body was broken, and His blood was shed “for you.” Follow His command; do what He asks. On this Sunday morning, gather with His people and remember His ultimate display of love.
