Are You There, God? Day 6- Hindrances to Prayer
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16, ESV)
This week, we have discussed prayer and four hindrances that stand in the way of effective praying.
Hindrance #1- Sin
What sins lie unconfessed in your life, causing distance between you and God? Confession and repentance are necessary to remove hindrances, opening up any walls between you and God.
Hindrance #2 – Lack of Generosity
If we want to receive blessing from God, He asks that we be generous to others. Give bountifully and receive bountifully. Sow sparingly and reap sparingly.
Hindrance #3 – Unhealthy Marriage
If our marriage is meant to be a picture of Christ and His Church, may we make it so. Anything less displeases the Lord and creates distance. If we want to be heard, let’s be attentive to our marriage and do the necessary work to portray the picture God intended.
Hindrance #4 – Unforgiving Spirit
Considering all that God has forgiven us, we must offer that same forgiveness to any who have hurt or wronged us. Failure to do so places distance between us and God. We must be forgiving people if we expect Him to move swiftly and mightily on our behalf.
May God give us the help we need to remove the things that hinder our prayers. We will see radical change if we are willing to remove these destructive patterns from our life and live in a way that pleases our Father.
