Devotional Thoughts for the Day 12: I Need Some Help, Please

“I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13, CSB)

I am often guilty of thinking I can do it all myself. I really don’t like asking for help, and when I think about my “help,” I often question if it’s just going to end up being more work. I’ll then have to give specific directions, or they may do it differently than I wanted it done. Doing it all myself, though, was never the way God intended for me to live and operate. He doesn’t want us self-dependent.

There are times when doing it myself doesn’t make sense or isn’t really feasible, and I find myself feeling uptight and frustrated. In times like these, God wants to be my strength. He wants to carry me through those challenging times, and He wants to use His people to be a help to me.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve seen how inadequate I can be on my own. Sometimes things are simply too big for me to handle; events may require too much of me or relationships are just too hard to figure out. And so, instead of feeling frustrated and stressed, I can lean on the Lord and allow the people He has placed in my life to be a help and blessing to me.

I can’t do it all, as much as I sometimes like to believe that I can. I need the Lord and the strength He offers me each day as I face its challenges. Why should I ever struggle alone when it’s so unnecessary? How gracious our God is to provide help for me! May I remember this the next time I think about doing it my way, on my own. We need other people and we need the Lord. We were never meant to do life solo!
