Devotional Thoughts for the Day 6: Giving Our Lives to Christ

“Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 16:3, ESV)

“To Titus, my true child in common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.” (Titus 1:4, ESV)

“Tychicus will tell you all about my activities. He is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord.” (Colossians 4:7, ESV)

I enjoyed thinking today about a handful of people Paul included in his letters and how their life was truly a living sacrifice to God.

It is interesting and encouraging to be reminded of their contributions to the faith and their local church testimony. Each was special and instrumental in their own way.

The challenge for us is to remember the importance of truly giving away our lives for the sake of Christ and the gospel. When I think of these early Church believers, I can see how far short I fall compared to them. There are so many areas of myself that are all about me and my own personal satisfaction.

The early Church had so many issues they struggled with, but, for the most part, they got it—they understood His worth and how worthy He was of their devotion. I think much of the Body of Christ has fallen away from this, inserting Jesus on Sundays or when we need Him. That’s not the way it is meant to be.

When we pass away, all of the “me stuff” dies with me. But what I do for Christ stays and follows me into my heavenly home. It impacts my reward and my position in Heaven for all of eternity. Why not, then, pour myself into His work instead of making my life so much about my own pursuits, desires and ambitions?
