Fall Testimony Series 2023 Day 2 – Naomi Draper’s Testimony
I was born and raised in a Christian home. We attended church every time the doors were open, and I heard the gospel preached weekly. The Bible was read to us daily in our home and we heard our parents pray for us to be saved. I never remember a time when I did not want to be saved.
As a young girl, I had a real fear of fire. I remember sitting in the gymnasium at school and watching a movie about fire safety. They showed how quickly fire can move through your home. The family in the video was asleep when the fire started. That fed my fear in a very real way! I would lie in bed at night terrified that a fire would start in our home while we slept.
When I was old enough to understand heaven, hell and salvation, my fear of fire translated into a fear of hell. That was somewhere I knew I never wanted to be! I would listen in gospel meeting and try so hard to be saved.
One night I had a dream that I died. In my dream, I joined a line of people waiting to “speak to” God and find out if they were going to heaven or hell. There were two sets of stairs, one on either side of God. The stairs on the left led to heaven and the stairs on the right led to hell. When I got to the front of the line, God asked me if I was saved. I wasn’t. He pointed to the stairs on the right and I started to cry. That’s when I woke up. That dream terrified me!
The next night I told my mom I was afraid to go to bed and that I wanted to be saved. She asked me to read several Scriptures with her. While we talked, something just clicked. I understood for the first time that I did not have to go to hell, that Jesus died to pay the price for my sins. Sitting on my bed, on Tuesday, March 16, 1976, in London, Ontario, I accepted what Christ did for me on that cross and I was saved. Now I would NEVER have to experience the flames of hell. Such a relief to my little heart and mind!
If you have never had a time in your life when you asked God to forgive you of your sins and save you, did you know that you can do that right now, right where you are? You don’t need to be in church or on your knees or with a pastor or priest. Romans 10: 9-10 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Accept His free gift of salvation today and His promise of heaven is yours!
