Foundations of Our Faith Day 6: Weekly Thoughts

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16, ESV)

We’ve followed Jesus this week from His path through the waving palm branches to the foot of the cross. It all happened in a week’s time—from adoration and worship to being put to death. How quickly human hearts can change! While we saw this change of heart demonstrated in a horrible way, our hearts can be changed for good from the gospel message we’ve studied this week.

Maybe you needed to revisit this time in our faith’s history, when Jesus suffered unimaginable pain for our sin, to re-ignite your own faith; I know I did. Too easily we can grow distant and cold to Him, forgetting what He accomplished on the cross to buy our pardon. How has revisiting Jesus’ last week week touched you or changed you? Did you feel compassion and sorrow as you spent time reflecting on it all? Do you have a renewed sense of gratefulness for your rescue and your Rescuer?

Or maybe you haven’t yet accepted Jesus as your Savior but you’ve followed along with us this week. If that’s the case, our deepest prayer is that you would not only follow our study but would long to follow Christ and accept His gift of salvation. We desire that this week in history would mean more to you than just a set of historical events; we long for you to see what Jesus did to wash you of your sin and free you from the judgment that should be upon you—and not only to see it but believe it. It’s true, friend, every bit of it. But unless you accept this truth for yourself, it cannot save you. How tragic it would be to see the provision that was made, yet dismiss it and refuse the rescue Jesus provides for all who simply come and believe.
