Lessons from Nature Day 6: Our Value to God

As far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved animals. Even today, as my family watched a 3-foot black snake slither along our patio (with shrieking coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE), I couldn’t help but look in awe at another of God’s creatures. When we lost our beloved cat Tiger in March 2021, the tear in my heart was immense. I’m thankful for the two kittens we now have to fill the gap (even though little Millie is relentlessly trying to walk on the keyboard right now). What can I say? I love animals! As a kid, I was even given the nickname in the home of “Nature D.” But I’m not the only one who loves animals: God, who created them, cares for them greatly.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father” (Matthew 10:29, ESV).

With the billions of birds in the world flying around, how incredible is it to think that God knows when every single one dies? And maybe we think, It’s just a bird!—not to God, it isn’t! It’s one of His creatures, made by His own power. But the point I really want to make is a well-known one. Look no further than two verses later:

“You are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:31, ESV).

So, while God tracks every sparrow, He considers you and me of greater value than many sparrows. Do you appreciate that fact today? The Lord considers you incredibly valuable. He proved it by sending His Son to die for you. There’s not much better expression of a person’s value than that! If I’m willing to sacrifice my child for you, then you must be extremely special. That’s the value that God our Father has placed on us. Never let anyone tell you that you have no value. You are a priceless treasure in the eyes of the Lord!
