Mornings with Maddie Day 10 – Praying for Mercy

“Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O Lord—how long?

I am weary with my moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
My eye wastes away because of grief;
it grows weak because of all my foes.

The Lord has heard my plea;
the Lord accepts my prayer.
All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;
they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.”

Psalm 6:2-3,6-7,9-10

What a heavy psalm this one is. We see in verse 6 the deep sorrow and tears that David felt and experienced. There were many circumstances in David’s life that caused him to feel the weight of sorrow, but the point of the psalm is that when he felt that great sorrow, he took it to the Lord.

May we always have that same response. A devotional I recently read talked about how if we could hear every sound that every living thing produced on the earth, we would die of the roar. Think of every sound—every word, every yell, every cry, and even the animal sounds—it would be enough to make us go crazy.

I’m so thankful that the Lord is sovereign and hears everything, and yet He is never overwhelmed or unable to hear each sound clearly—and that includes my own prayers. I’m so grateful He chooses to hear me and shows mercy when I cry out to Him.
