Mornings with Maddie Day 9 – Praying for Restoration
“Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.”
This psalm likely resonates with each of us. Our transgressions against the Lord can definitely weigh on us if we allow them to.
It can be easy to wallow in feelings of self-pity and think of worst-case scenarios of what might have happened had we kept going down the path we were on.
A great help during those times is to remember who the God we are praying to truly is. We can’t continue to wallow in those feelings and get sucked into constantly remembering all our shortcomings and our failures. We must forge ahead and look to Christ and rejoice in who He is and His ability to wash us clean and restore us fully.
