Peace on Earth 22: Jesus Brings Peace

Peace on Earth Day 22 – Jesus Brings Peace

“And through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:20, ESV)

Jesus is our Peace. Yet, while we know this to be true, it often doesn’t seem to be evidenced in our world. There has been much warring and arguing over our Savior—His authenticity and claim of being the Messiah, the promised Savior of the world.

This claim has brought division among family members. It has led to heated arguments among religious circles—arguments that led to a bitter split. This claim has also led to national and political unrest, which we continue to see played out in the Middle East. People have died because of their belief in this claim, their innocent lives taken simply for accepting it as truth. And so, when we examine both “Jesus” and “Peace,” it may seem ludicrous to believe He is able to be Peace or bring peace—and yet we believe both.

The peace the world embraces is only temporary, at best. The peace Jesus offers is a forever peace—a place of rest that transcends the chaos of our present circumstances. Whether we are standing in a war zone or sleeping calmly in our homes, we (those who are saved) have the same portion of His peace.

Peace that can’t be bought, sold or stolen has great value. When we are given His peace, which was bought with His blood on the cross, our lives are forever changed. His peace means I can walk confidently through life’s storms, knowing my soul is eternally secure in Christ. Nothing I know is better than this peace.

As we appreciate His peace this Christmas season, may we be willing to share the Source of our peace with those who are still in spiritual darkness.
