Peace on Earth Day 24 – Christmas Eve Selah
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6, KJV)
As we think of the Baby in the manger, we might be tempted to only think of Him as the Messiah who came for us. But let’s not miss the miracle of a Baby who, as He lay in that manger in His infant form, was also—and is—every Name listed above.
A Baby named Wonderful.
A Baby who is Counsellor.
A Baby but also The Mighty God.
A Baby yet The Everlasting Father.
A Baby known as The Prince of Peace.
As our advent topic has been peace, I love knowing He is The Prince of Peace—the One by whom peace is possible.
As we worship our Savior today, may we enjoy reflecting on His titles brought out in this passage from Isaiah 9. And as we gather with family and friends today to celebrate Christmas Eve, may our hearts be touched by our Savior and the many Names ascribed to Him in Scripture.
Each title gives us comfort and hope: He’s wonderful; He’s our Counsellor; He’s Mighty; He’s Everlasting; He has brought us Peace. Thank You, Jesus, for being everything we need.
