Peace on Earth Day 27 – Heaven, Our Promised Peace

“In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:2-3, ESV)

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4, ESV)

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 3:20, ESV)

Vacations are great! There is nothing like having some time away, trying new things, going to different destinations, exploring, having a fun time away from home. However, if you’re anything like me, there is a point on almost every vacation at which you start to miss being home. Today we are going to discuss the topic of Heaven as our promised peace.

Though there are times when we can’t wait to get out of our hometown and go to some exotic destination, eventually we miss our house, our routine, the familiarity of our surroundings, and, most importantly, sleeping in our own beds. There is truly no place like home!

For Christians here on earth, this is not our home; this is no exotic vacation destination either. We are here for a short while, but we will be in Heaven with our Savior forever. Just as Christmas has now passed and we are looking forward to a new year, so we look forward to a much bigger change when we enter heaven. It will not just be a change in the date, but a change in our nature.

Heaven is a place where there is no more heartache, no more pain, no more crying, no more death; for us it will be unlike anything we could ever imagine. It is a place of perfect peace because it is ruled by the Prince of Peace. It’s a place we all look forward to calling home as we see this world becoming worse and worse. We can be thankful that we have a permanent home in Heaven, our promised peace.
