Personal Evangelism Day 3: Benefits to the Believer
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-4)
In the work of salvation, who does the saving? That’s a silly question right? Of course we know that God is the one who saves. He doesn’t need us; but since He doesn’t, why does He choose to use us? There must be benefits for the believers, right? When God commands us to tell the world about His Son, He intends for us to grow through that work. Let’s look at some of the ways He helps us mature as believers by focusing on evangelism.
We Fulfill Our Purpose
Every believer does it at some point in their journey. They ask the question, “What is God’s will for my life?” I remember as a young believer I was obsessed with this question. I thought it was so complicated. However, I’ve realized it doesn’t need to be. His will is for me to obey His Word as faithfully as possible and let the Holy Spirit guide my life. So what is one thing His Word very clearly tells me to do? “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel.” When I focus on personal evangelism, I’m instantly fulfilling part of my purpose. Wherever I am, whomever I encounter, I have an opportunity to fulfill God’s will when I seek to tell them about His Son.
We Strengthen Our Prayer Life
How much do we care about the souls of the people we encounter? Seriously, take some time to honestly answer that question. Do we want to see people we love perishing for all eternity? Do we have a desire to see them saved? When we know the cure for the illness of sin, and we care for the people who are dying all around us, two things should naturally happen. First, we should tell them of the danger they are in and how they can be saved. Second, we should pray for them and bring their names before the God who has the power to save their soul. It’s been said that we show much we care by how much we pray. When we are focused every day on telling people about Jesus, it will naturally drive us to our knees.
We Strengthen Our Faith
When we take a stand for Christ in this world and seek to tell others about Him, we should expect that there will be trials coming our way. As trials come, however, a beautiful thing will happen: we will see our God standing right by our side through it all. At times we may have the privilege of seeing a soul trust Him as their Savior! Our faith will always be strengthened when we are focused on eternal matters instead of the things of this world. There is no better way to focus on heaven than by telling everyone around us how to get there!
These are but a few of the benefits that God brings to our lives when we tell others about His Son. We should never underestimate the work He can do in our lives when we are focused on serving others.
