Seeking Him First Day 6 – Weekly Thoughts

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1, ESV)

As hard as it is to wrap my brain around this truth, God always existed. From before this first verse in the first book of the Bible, He was there. He was first, and so naturally it makes good sense to continue to give Him that place in our own lives. It’s His place as the Supreme God of the Universe. His identity as God doesn’t hinge on my own submission to His authority.

As we’ve looked in this study at developing the habit of seeking Him first, our prayer is that we would feel challenged to do so. He has given us free will to consider Him first, or not to. Personally speaking, I have chosen to chart my own course at times, only to find myself frustrated and headed in a direction that wasn’t the best path for me.

May we train ourselves, before we make decisions, to ask questions that will lead us to choose wisely and in a way that honors God. We have one life to live, and if we’re living it to indulge ourselves and follow our own agendas, we will feel regret when we stand before God and give an account of our life choices.

“Dear heavenly Father, we pray that we would develop the regular habit of seeking You first so that we can move forward with wisdom and purpose. We thank You, Father, for wanting to lead us and encourage us in the seasons we face. May we be found faithful and willing to bow to Your authority and honor You with our obedience. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen!”
