Showing Self-Compassion Day 6: Weekly Thoughts

Sharon Snooks

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! (Psalm 139:17,18, NLT)

Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you. (Isaiah 43:4, ESV)

The LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. (Zephaniah 3:17, NLT)

Who are these verses talking about? Can you imagine if they are truly talking about you? They are! And this is our reality: God, our Savior, thinks precious thoughts toward you—countless, that they can’t even be numbered. And He delights in you and rejoices over you with songs! You are precious in His eyes—He loves you!

I invite you to take some moments and allow yourself to feel these truths settle in, and to quiet yourself in them. I find that I often need to ask the Holy Spirit for help to make these truths felt in my heart so that I can really experience them.

Inner-compassion—an extension of God’s love and compassion for you. Let’s not have it stop at this. As we take in His delight and His love for us, thanking Him, our hearts are drawn to wonder in awe at who He is. How great is His love, a love that took Him all the way to Calvary. Oh, what an eternal gift of love. What a Savior!

You may find it helpful to write out one of these verses and put it on your bathroom mirror, fridge, or car visor—somewhere you will easily see it. I encourage you to use it as a reminder to thank God for His compassionate love for you and as an opportunity to worship Him.
