Supporting the Burdens of Others Day 7: Sunday Selah
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10, ESV)
As we prepare our hearts for worship today, this Scripture passage is so fitting. Each Sunday, as we leave our place of worship, we set out for another new week with a fresh perspective and a heart touched by His amazing sacrifice for our sins. And then we move on from that place, and life presses in—responsibilities that call for our attention—and our focus shifts.
And so here we are again, preparing to gather with our church families and sing praise and offer worship to our Savior. But first, our hearts need cleansed and restored. The filth of the world so easily clings to us and draws our hearts away. Crowding our minds are thoughts of what we need to accomplish this week, where we need to go, and the moments of fun that await. These things, while legitimate, must take their place behind our LORD.
We ask that You would forgive us, LORD. We ask that You would create a new spirit within us—a spirit that places You first. We ask that you would cleanse us from our sin and remove distractions from us as we reflect on You. May our hearts once again be warmed by the gift of salvation and the tremendous price paid for our redemption. And may we praise You, Jesus—the One who loved us enough to rescue us and pardon us forever through the blood You shed on that cross.
