The Skies Proclaim His Handiwork Day 6: Weekly Thoughts
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. (Revelation 21:23, ESV)
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5, ESV)
As we have looked this week at the light sources God created for our enjoyment and to meet our needs, we understand that the need for them is only temporary. Heaven needs no sun, moon or stars to illuminate it and help us see. Scripture tells us that the glory of God is the only Light in heaven—nothing else is needed for visibility. I can hardly imagine such a place, but I know that one day I’ll see it for myself. I look forward to that day!
But until that time comes, we need His light sources to help us see and guide us as we live day to day. In a similar way, He has placed spiritual Light in His people and asks us to share it with the world, a world filled with sin and pain. The world is spiritually dark, and without the Light of the gospel that His people carry, there would be no Light at all. As Light carriers, let’s openly share the gospel with a world that is dark and needs hope. Let’s boldly share the Light with the lost, praying that God would give us courage to shine brightly for all to see!
