The Toxicity of Sexual Sin Day 7: Sunday Selah
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:8, ESV)
As we come today to worship the LORD, we must first consider our sin. We cannot fully worship God when are held in bondage to sin; it’s not what God ever wants for those He has set free.
As believers, part of our weekly practice should be self-evaluation—what stands between me and a holy God? Often, in the busyness of our lives, we find ourselves in a cycle where we aren’t giving the proper attention to repentance and restoration. We come before the LORD each Sunday to worship, but our hearts are distant and cold. I know this because I’ve been there.
A weekly meeting with the LORD sets a pattern for us to remember not only His great sacrifice for us but the need to come before Him in purity. A great cost was paid for our redemption, and so our response to that should include a willingness to be obedient to His Word. Failure to do so weakens the body of Christ and puts distance between ourselves and our Savior.
May we each be challenged to be vulnerable before the LORD, to ask for forgiveness, and, more than that, to live in a way that reflects the truth of His presence within us. May the LORD give us the needed help, strength and courage to worship in holiness, and to put aside the desires of our flesh that harm our testimony and cause pain and heartache.
